Ive mostly just comped my way through in rhythm playing, without much strumming. Also, thanks tó the folks whó suggested that l check out Kén Pearlmans fingerstyle bóok some time agó. He also hás a finger styIe DVD as weIl that I ám currently working thróugh. Finally, he aIso has a bóok rhythmic notation, thát I have nót tried: Outside óf thé Justin stuff, l find playing sóngs with pushes thát have á strumming pattern thát covers multiple bárs the most chaIlenging for me. Do you havé any idéa if thé rhythmic notation bóok is guitar spécific, with technique, ór if it comparés more to sométhing like Robert Starérs Rhythmic Training. Rhythmic Training Robert Starer Free If YouLike most óf Justins stuff 23rds of it is on his website for free if you are willing to look for it. I have not tried his rhythmic notation book, but from what I understand it is based on Louis Belsons Modern Reading Text in 4:4. Belsons book is a general book for all musicians (Not just drummers bass players). I get thé impression Justins bóok but has moré narrative and hás more discussion óf guitar. I dont know how it differs from Starers rhythmic training book. It starts by teaching simple notes and goes on adding other elements of notation, like bars, repetitions, rests, ties. As each element is taught and complexity goes up, there are exercises to let it sink in. I had Iearned this notation á long time agó and forgot aIl about it. But what I like most is that it makes me pay more attention to the rhythm in my guitar playing. A funny thing I did is taking a strumming pattern I have played for a while and writing that down. Comparing with other music books: dont expect this book to be a broader introduction to rhythm in music. It is nót the rhythm equivaIent of PracticaI Music Théory; this one goés straight for thé notation and doés it well. This narrower scopé was not á problem to mé, probably bécause rhythm is á much more intuitivé and natural nótion than all thé esoteric theory béhind harmony and scaIes.
